Descripción del curso
Social, political, economic, and educational factors have led English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) to be consolidated as a teaching approach, which is present in the instructional trends in the world today. Such an approach offers new ways of understanding how we teach different areas using EMI and how it may be conducive to knowledge construction and/or appropriation. The course brings us to the need of rethinking and reconstructing the ideas about didactics and how they may provide a path for us to create effective communicative environments and hence, learning environments. The course sequence moves from abstract concepts to the design of didactic units using project-based teaching as well as task-based instruction. Training and forming our professors in the profound considerations, methods, and methodologies regarding EMI is paramount to the professional development of teachers in the University as well as in the broader national and international contexts and in light of second language policies, trends, and interest concerning the improvement of English proficiency while teaching content areas.
